Our Vision for Science
At Chapel Hill, we believe that Science should inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong sense of wonder about the world around us. Through exciting, practical and hands-on experiences, pupils develop a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and the scientific method, enabling them to confidently engage with the world they live in.
We aim to nurture inquisitive minds by encouraging children to ask questions, explore ideas and think critically about the natural and physical world.
Intent
At Chapel Hill, we are committed to instilling a lifelong passion for Science in every child.
We believe that the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed through Science are essential not only within education, but also for everyday life and future careers. Our curriculum is carefully planned to provide a rich variety of scientific experiences that develop:
- Scientific knowledge and understanding

- Confidence in using the scientific method
- An understanding of how scientific discoveries have shaped the modern world
Through engaging lessons and meaningful investigations, children learn how Science continues to influence and improve everyday life.
Implementation
We are committed to delivering a high-quality Science curriculum through engaging teaching, practical learning opportunities and strong subject knowledge.
To support this, the school ensures that staff have access to high-quality resources and ongoing professional development to deliver an ambitious and inspiring curriculum.
Our Science provision includes:
- A minimum of one hour of Science teaching each week in every infant class
- A minimum of 90 minutes of Science teaching each week in every junior class
- Early Years pupils developing their understanding of the world through carefully planned exploratory experiences embedded throughout the curriculum
- Practical investigations and hands-on activities that encourage pupils to question, predict, observe and evaluate
- Opportunities to develop scientific vocabulary and communicate findings clearly
Children record their learning in a variety of ways to help consolidate core scientific knowledge and demonstrate progression in both understanding and scientific enquiry skills.

Pupils’ work reflects the broad and engaging curriculum we provide, and assessment information is used effectively to monitor progress and identify next steps. Senior leaders and governors regularly review outcomes and support continuous improvement to ensure high standards across the subject.
