Year 5 Viking Launch
To mark the launch of our history lessons on the Vikings, our Year Fives were fortunate to go on their own Viking adventure as they journeyed to Lee Chapel's theatre to experience an expert led workshop.
First, they were transported to the Viking creation myth through interactive storytelling. Taking on the roles of the fire from Muspelheim and the icy waters of Niflheim, they reenacted the creation of the first giant Ymir and how that led to the creation of the earth.
Next, they combined their creativity and teamwork to create living statues of important aspects of Viking life including longboats, rock formations and, slightly less glamorously, pigs. Throughout this, each group also took part in a quiz which linked The Vikings to landmarks across the UK, such as Iona and Lindisfarne.
All our children left inspired, enthused and eager to learn more as we embark on our historical learning journey.
